Uchiyama vs Paire: will the Frenchman get his revenge?
Benoit Paire starts his Atlanta campaign against Yasutaka Uchiyama. Will the French tennis player be able to defeat the Japanese? Our answer is in the prediction below.
Uchiyama played two matches on hard since the end of the grass tournaments. In Los Cabos, he first defeated Alexander Sarkissian (5-7, 6-0, 6-4) and then lost to Steve Johnson (6-7, 3-6). We can't really say that the Japanese is in good shape. In 2021, he lost 17 out of 23 matches, which gives us not a very optimistic picture.
We would like to remind you, that Uchiyama had defeated Paire before: back in 2019 in Tokyo, Yasutaka outplayed the French tennis player in two straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
Paire has returned to us after a very long bleak performance in this tour. In Hamburg and Gstaad, he reached the quarterfinals. Moreover, Benoit even put up a fight against Casper Ruud and Federico Delbonis. He won one set from both tennis players.
Paire has not won a single match on hard this season, but his latest results are quite promising, and we believe that we will yet see Benoit at his best, possibly in Atlanta.
In 4 out of Paire's last 6 matches, the minimum number of sets has been played.
In the last 3 matches of the Japanese tennis player, at least 10 games were played in the first set.
Paire is improving his playing form, and we finally remember what he is capable of. At the moment Benoit has every chance of winning his first match on hard of the season. Moreover, his opponent is not in the best game form and has a disadvantage in class, too.
Our prediction - Benoit Paire to win.
If Uchiyama lost on hard this season, he normally lost in two sets. Nothing has changed in the game of the Japanese tennis player lately, so we doubt that he will be able to fight off Paire.
Second prediction - total under 23.5 games.
